Cross Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

While not endowed with the tall mountain peaks of northern New England, Rhode Island’s rolling hills and meadows, often encompassing ancient farmlands, make perfect terrain for cross-country skiing. Nature preserves and state parks in all parts of the state – from South County to Blackstone Valley and the East Bay towns east of Narragansett Bay – have miles of multi-purpose trails where Nordic skiers are welcome. Some, like those in Lincoln Woods State Park, meander among evergreen forests; others, like the East Bay Bike Path, offer onshore breezes from the upper part of the bay.
